The supported Toughbook models for BIOS password recovery are, in short, every Panasonic Toughbook that uses AMI firmware and still boots into Windows. That covers the rugged laptops most people own. This page lists the common families, what to expect from each, and what to do if yours is not named.
Supported Toughbook models by family
- CF-31 (Mk1 to Mk6): the fully rugged 13-inch workhorse. See Toughbook CF-31 BIOS password.
- CF-53 (Mk1 to Mk4): the semi-rugged 14-inch model. See Toughbook CF-53 BIOS password.
- CF-54 (Mk1 to Mk3): the thinner successor to the CF-53. See Toughbook CF-54 BIOS password.
- CF-19 (every mark): the convertible tablet, including older marks on 32-bit Windows 7. See Toughbook CF-19 BIOS password.

- CF-20, CF-33, CF-C2, CF-H2, FZ-40, FZ-G1, FZ-G2: the same AMI firmware family, handled the same way.
What makes a model supported
Two things decide it. First, the firmware must be AMI Aptio (or the older AMIBIOS8), because the extraction tool is AMI’s own utility. Nearly every Toughbook made in the last fifteen years qualifies. Second, the machine must boot into Windows so the tool can run. If both are true, you can extract the Toughbook BIOS ROM and send it for a free review. The review, not this list, is the final word on any specific machine.
My model is not listed
Send the ROM anyway. The list above names the families that arrive most often, however the supported Toughbook models are defined by firmware, not by a marketing name. A CF-C1, an FZ-M1 or a CF-U1 can be just as recoverable as a CF-31. Because the review is free, an unlisted model costs you nothing to check.
Which tool for which generation
Newer machines such as the FZ-55, CF-33 and CF-54 use the Windows 11 tool. Mid-generation machines such as the CF-31 Mk5 and CF-53 Mk4 usually work with either the Windows 11 or Windows 10 tool. The oldest machines, for example a CF-19 Mk3 or a CF-31 Mk1 still on Windows 7, need the Windows 7 tool, and a 32-bit installation needs the 32-bit tool inside that folder. In every case, the rule is the same: try the newest tool first and step down if it refuses to save.
What is not supported
A Toughbook that stops at the password prompt and never loads Windows is not supported, because its ROM cannot be read. Neither is any machine you do not own or are not authorized to service; the owner-authorized BIOS recovery policy applies to every model on this page. Finally, this service does not cover Windows passwords, BitLocker keys or hard-drive passwords, which live elsewhere entirely. Panasonic publishes the specifications for every current and legacy model on its Toughbook site, which is the quickest way to confirm which generation you have.
